nov-bond with your dentist

Do you have a chip, crack, discoloration or imperfection on your tooth? Composite bonding may be the solution for you…

Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-coloured resin material is applied and hardened with a special light, which will ‘bond’ the material to the tooth to restore or improve person’s smile. Bonding can be used to change the colour, shape, and size of the teeth to make them more attractive. Here at Geoffrey Deeb Dental in Holland Park we preform composite bonding treatments to help fix imperfections in their teeth and in doing so help create a more brilliant smile!

Why would I need a composite bonding treatment?

Composite bonding can be used to help correct small imperfections in your mouth, while it is usually used for cosmetic reasons in some cases bonding is the necessary treatment to restore damaged or decayed teeth. Most often we use bonding treatments when:

  • Decayed teeth need repaired, composite resins can be used to fill cavities
  • Chipped or cracked teeth can be filled with composite resins
  • Improving the appearance of unevenly or discoloured teeth
  • Closing spaces between teeth
  • Elongating teeth
  • Shaping teeth
  • As a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings
  • To protect a portion of the tooth’s root that has been exposed when gums recede

At Geoffrey Deeb Dental we will assess your teeth to determine the best treatment for your dental concerns. If you are considering cosmetic dentistry or have an urgent chip or crack that needs filled, composite bonding might be the treatment best suited for you.

The benefits of composite bonding…

Dental bonding is a quick, easy and cost effective cosmetic dental procedure. While veneers and crowns may be a lengthy treatment, bonding can usually be done in one office visit unless several teeth are involved. There is also little to no tooth enamel removed in bonding procedures and unless dental bonding is being performed to fill a cavity, anesthesia is not usually required. In most cases dental bonding is recommended for minor alterations or cosmetic changes, depending on the state of your oral health the most appropriate treatment will be prescribed.

What’s the process of composite bonding?

Dental bonding usually takes about 30–60 minutes per tooth with little advanced preparation and in most cases does not require anesthesia. After determining the shade necessary to match your teeth the bonding process can begin. Firstly, the surface of the tooth will be roughened and a conditioning liquid applied. These procedures help ensure the bonding material sticks to the tooth. The composite is then applied, moulded and smoothed to the desired shape. To harden the material an ultraviolet light or laser is used. After the material is hardened, Dr Geoffery Deeb will further trim, shape, and polish your tooth to match the rest of the tooth surface. This simple procedure is virtually pain free and can have your smile looking just the way you want it!
